WW1: US Navy Landing Force
During World War I Marines served as a part of the American Expeditionary Force under General Pershing when America entered into the war on 6 April 1917. During the war, the Marines, fighting on the Western Front in France, fought at the battle at Belleau Wood in mid-1918.
