This model represents part of an Anglo-Saxon settlement, with a lord's mead hall at the centre. It shows you the settlement as it was in the 7th century AD. A real Anglo-Saxon village was excavated at Catholme in Staffordshire. It included halls, sheds for weaving and storage, and other buildings, as well latrine pits and rubbish pits (Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery).
