US troops at the Battle of the Bulge also had to cope with the punishing climate of the Ardennes. The Germans held off on their offensive until dense fog and snow arrived and grounded the Allies’ superior air support, leaving both sides to grapple with near-Arctic conditions. “Weather was a weapon the German army used with success,” Field Marshal Von Rundstedt later noted.One of the photos captured a German Hauptmann at the very moment of his falling after an American MK2 hand grenade explosion  (The photographed soldiers are from Airfix and Marx of the Ukraine).
