Visiting the Battle of Vinegar Hill and Enniscorthy (Part 2) : The fight for the bridge

The bridge across the River Slaney was a key strategic landmark, hotly contested by both Crown and Irish Rebel forces. Pushed back through the town by the advancing Crown forces, the rebels made their stand at the bridge and managed to hold it for long enough to allow the main force of the Rebel Army on the Vinegar Hill to escape. However, the contingent defending bridge was wiped out. (The National 1798 Rebellion Centre in Enniscorthy).
