Visiting the Battle of Vinegar Hill and Enniscorthy (Part 3) : Rebels atrocities on the hill

In the days and weeks before the battle, the Hill was occupied by rebel factions who held a number of loyalist prisoners captive in the windmill. These were "systematically" tried in makeshift courts before being  condemned to death by firing squad of piking. The arrival of the main Rebel Army and official command put an end to the atrocities, but not before some 100 prisoners had been murdered. (The National 1798 Rebellion Centre in Enniscorthy).
