Georg Manz composition soldiers ⚔️⚔️⚔️๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Georg Manz (July 8, 1864 – November 11, 1948) run a grocery store in Ellwangen in Baden-Wรผrttemberg from around 1900 to the beginning of 1930s. He sold jewelery and leather goods, knives, scissors, basketry and brush goods, and also toys. The Manz 7.5 cm composition figures are believed to have been made around the time between 1915 and 1918 and have no wire insert for stabilization. These composition figures are modelled entirely in the style of the pewter figures customary at that time. But it is not yet possible to prove with certainty whether they were produced by Manz itself. According to statements by the Manz family, he probably didn't produce them himself. According to Ellwangen historians, no figures are known to have been produced in Ellwangen. It is also questionable whether a "small grocer" would have had the financial means to finance such a rather extensive figure production. After all, it has been proven that there are over 100 different soldier figures. Some researchers believe that Hausser might be the real producer of Manz soldiers. Elastolin French Poilu soldiers ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท⚔️⚔️⚔️

Poilu is an informal term for a late 18th century–early 20th century French infantryman, meaning, literally, the hairy one. It is still widely used as a term of endearment for the French infantry of World War I. The word carries the sense of the infantryman's typically rustic, agricultural background, and derives from the bushy moustaches and other facial hair affected by many French soldiers after the outbreak of the war as a sign of masculinity. The Poilu was particularly known for his love of pinard, his ration of cheap wine. The image of the dogged, bearded French soldier was widely used in propaganda and war memorials. The stereotype of the Poilu was of bravery and endurance, but not always of unquestioning obedience. These WW1 French infantry soldiers were produced by Elastolin in 30s. These particular composition soldiers were presented with and without knapsacks.

Visiting the Castle of San Giusto (Trieste, Italy) - June 2023

The Castle of San Giusto stands on the hill overlooking the city of Trieste, its gulf and its hinterland. In 1382 the town came under the control of the Austrian Empire, following which the Imperial court ordered the construction of a fortress to protect the town and provide accommodation for its Captain. The building work lasted from 1468 to 1636. It began with the Captain’s House – a fortified residence flanked by an L-shaped tower – which was subsequently incorporated into a triangular fortress with a bastion at each corner. Each bastion was built to a different design, dictated by the defensive techniques in use at the time of construction: the Round or Venetian Bastion, built in 1508-1509; the polygonal Lalio or Hoyos Bastion, built in 1553-1557; the triangular Fiorito or Pomis Bastion, completed in 1636.
